Individual Sessions

Functional Integration®

Hands-on Feldenkrais® Lessons

Through gentle yet precise, directive touch as well as verbal direction, Sonja guides you to discover new ways of sensing, feeling and moving with greater ease.

Sonja has worked with people from five months to 103 years old! People come to her with a wide variety of unique circumstances and interests:

  • Athletes, martial artists, dancers, and musicians interested in increasing their performance abilities
  • Persons with cerebral palsy or other neurological conditions
  • Individuals seeking personal growth through developed awareness.
  • Children (and infants) with developmental or learning differences
  • Car accident victims (suffering from whiplash or other musculoskeletal trauma)
  • Pre- and postoperative recovery (open heart surgery, reconstructive knee surgery)
  • Computer users with repetitive stress injuries, back and neck strains

Sessions are tailored to each person's specific situation. Like our handwriting, we all develop unique movement signatures—ways we habitually organize our actions. Sometimes these habits serve us well; other times, they are counterproductive. Through Functional Integration®, you will discover new ways to engage in the world and learn to effectively bring intentions into action.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A lesson is approximately 45 minutes. The form each lesson takes depends upon the individual's age, interests and attention span.

Adults and seniors often enjoy lying quietly in comfortable loose clothing on a low table while Sonja works with them through gentle, precise, noninvasive touch. Other sessions are more active and may include verbally directed movements while sitting, kneeling or standing.

Adolescents and children often enjoy "movement experiments" that enable them to learn new and more effective ways of moving and interacting with their environment. Combined with gentle, instructive touch, Sonja provides playful opportunities to explore specific developmental and functional themes.

Though each session may look quite different, one thing remains consistent:

My intention is to guide you in your own unique learning process to discover the most efficient and enjoyable ways of moving through your life.
